Ski MountaineeringSki and snowboard mountaineering has been the focus of my mountain activities for nearly 20 years. There is perhaps nothing as exhilarating as reaching a high alpine summit, then clicking into slippery boards, and shoving off. I have tempered the scale and seriousness of my chosen descents as I have gotten older, but still am ticking off peaks and routes throughout the Northern Rockies. In 1991, I started America's first technical ski mountaineering training camp in conjunction with Exum Mountain Guides. Today, this program has sprouted into several camps that operate in the Tetons and Wind Rivers between one and four times each spring between early April and late June. There still is no better group-oriented ski and snowboard mountaineering training program available anywhere.
